Excited to see my carrots peeping through. This is the second time round as the first planting of the carrots this year were practically driven into the ground with the heavy rains – bet someone in Australia is enjoying an unexpected crop of carrots! A word of advice: wait for good and … warm weather conditions. I learned planting early this year was a waste of time.
Now that my carrots are finally coming up here are some planting and growing tips that might be of use:
- Deter carrot root fly by netting or covering – you can buy netting in any garden shop and will cost you between €5 and €20 depending on how much you need.
- Sow in good loamy soil – loamy soil is rich soil consisting of a mixture of sand, clay, and decaying organic material
- Thin seedlings to about 5cm (2 inches) apart
