Rent costs were unchanged in August

Irish residential rents remained flat in August, according to the latest inflation figures from the Central Statistics Office.

Rents had fallen in April, May and June but rose slightly in July. Over the past year, the CSO estimates that rents are up by 1.9%

The latest figures, released earlier this week, show that housing has stopped being the biggest driver of annual inflation, mostly because mortgage costs have been declining. They are down by 13.3% in the past year.

On the other hand energy costs in the home are up by 10.5% in the past 12 months with natural gas on the rise by 22.5% in the year.
