Dublin City Council to debate use of vacant sites in the capital

Dublin City Council are hosting an evening of exploratory talks tomorrow (Thursday) aimed at finding innovative uses for vacant sites around the city.

The City Limits event will be hosted by Lord Mayor of Dublin, Óisin Quinn, and will consist of brief introductions to exemplar projects and participatory debate.

A discussion will take place on how best to utilise the 600 empty sites within the capital.

One person who will be attending is Carol Tallon of Buyer’s Broker, who said: “My interest is in promoting alternative ways of living for buyers, from the logical (retrofitting multiple existing one and two-bed apartments to create three and four bed homes) to the experimental (converted shipping containers on our city’s rooftops!) right through to the aspirational (Ireland’s first allotment homes in Dublin 8).

“We are also looking to create temporary live/work units for the next generation of entrepreneurs,” she said.

The event runs from 6pm to 8pm in the Dublin City Council Civic Offices at Wood Quay, Dublin 8.
