Get Some Curb Side Appeal

Example of a property with no curb side appeal! When it comes to selling your property, first impressions count and every possible contact with your buyer must scream “this is the property for you”.

You may think that the overgrown lawn, a weed trodden path and wonky slates add charm and … character but in your buyers mind it shouts work, money and I’m not bothered! Like a date, first impressions must capture the buyer and reel them in. It is a known fact that potential buyers drive past properties, your property, before contacting an agent. This is an opportunity not to be missed.

There are a few simply things that can get out and do to get those buyers as far as your front door!

  • De-clutter and tidy the front of your house – you may walk past these things every day and not notice them but a potential buyer will! So always put away bins, gardening equipment and toys.
  • Get out your lawnmower and garden gloves. Ensure that your garden is weeded, tidy, pruned and not overgrown. Some potted and planted flowers are always good to add for colour.
  • Make sure your front door is painted and polished up. If your front door is in really bad condition, consider replacing it.
  • Make sure your entry light, outdoor lights and doorbell are working.
  • Replace any missing house numbers and make sure the number is visible from the street.
  • Borrow/ hire/ buy a pressure hose to clean any dirt, mildew and stains on your drive and exterior walls.
  • Wash & clean your windows (up and down, inside and out), if the paint is faded or peeling, give them a quick lick of paint.

I know what you mean :-/ The management company that looks after my apartment block didn’t do a great job of keeping the common areas clean. I sold my apartment last year (thank god), but before the viewings I had to clean the corridor, stairs and even wash down areas of the walls so as not to put buyers off before they even got to see the apartment.

Its a pity that you can do all of this but your neighbours houses might let you down. Trying to sell my house but the estate is a mess – overgrown commual area , rubbish bins left on the street.
