First time buyers: Where their priorities lye

First Time BuyersIn the current market there is room to be a bit more choosy / specific about what you want and about what you do and don’t like when it comes to buying property. Well first time buyers fit the bill of being a picky bunch as a recent survey carried out by has shown where their priorities lye when it comes to choosing a property. First Time buyers, who are the are the single biggest group in the housing market right, making up 35% of buyers, according to the Irish Banking Federation, would choose storage space, parking and good room sizes over being close to family, friends, parks or schools!

Not only that but the majority of respondents to the survey would prefer to buy a second-hand property in walk in condition over a newly built homes which remain low on the property choice list.

I came across this survey in The Irish Times Property Supplement today and found the results intriguing….especially in relation to the business of storage. The fact is that most Irish homes fall well short of people’s expectations in this regard.

I nearly think it’s time to re-invent the wheel when it comes to house design! Even brand new, “quality” developments make only the slightest of gestures towards what people really want – and need- in terms of storage. So while people may rank storage very high on their list of priorities, what they will find available in reality will sadly fall well short of their expectations.
