People who do not pay their water charges when they are introduced in two years time will have the service cut off.
That’s according to Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who said in the Dáil that decisions on cut-offs would have to be made. He noted that those who did not pay their electricity or phone bills had those services cut off and said the same might have to be considered for water services.
Mr Kenny said that if people were careful and prudent about the amount of water they use they will not face getting cutting off though.
The government has yet to decide how much the charge will be but has already signalled a standing charge of about €40 a year.
