Trailfinders to open Limerick store

Cruises Street in Limerick

TRAVEL agents Trailfinders are to open a store on Limerick’s Cruises Street, employing up to 15 staff.

The news, which was confirmed to the Limerick Leader newspaper by the UK travel group, will help to soften the blow of HMV’s closure on the pedestrian street last week.

The new travel centre, the company’s third in Ireland, will open in “early April”, with the required staff currently being recruited to work in the store.

“Trailfinders Limerick will be our 27th travel centre across the UK and Ireland, and our third in Ireland alongside Dublin, which opened in 1997 and Cork, which opened in 2006,” explained Lucy Balding, spokesperson for Trailfinders, who specialise in designing tailored tours for holidaymakers and globetrotters.

“The centre is due to open in early April on Cruises Street and will be staffed by approximately 10-15 travel consultants, all who have travelled extensively, including a specialist team of First & Business Class travel consultants,” she continued.

“Trailfinders is excited to be expanding to Ireland’s first City of Culture and the commercial capital of Mid-West Ireland.

“We look forward to welcoming the people of Limerick and the surrounding area, both those who are loyal clients and those who will be new to us,” she added.

Trailfinders, founded in 1970 by former SAS officer Mike Gooley who began with a staff of four, remains privately owned and has grown to the point where it has made travel arrangements for over 12.5 million clients worldwide.

It is not yet known which unit Trailfinders intends to occupy on Cruises Street, which has suffered a number of closures over the past 18 months.

The company are currently advertising for “new team members” to staff the store, with applicants required to have “exceptional geographical knowledge and recent, extensive independent travel in at least two regions from Australasia, Asia, Africa, North or South America”.
