Knocklyon family garden makeover
BEFORE: A haphazard approach to layout, creates congestion and results in less usable space
BEFORE: A lack of consistency in finishes results in a loss of harmony and dissatisfaction
As can be seen from some of the ‘BEFORE’ photos, the original garden looked jaded and the layout which was split on different levels only managed to make the garden appear smaller, less usable and increased the sense of a congested space. A much more important objective for the owners was to find a more sensible and harder wearing solution to replace the timber panelled fencing and decking, which were clearly in poor condition with obvious signs of damage and decay.
The obvious solution was to implement a design which better defined teh space in a durable but appealing way (painted and rendered concrete block walls) which would be complemented by Raised Planter Beds to provide easy and effective control of planted borders but more importantly in this instance plenty of useful informal seating. The decking would be replaced by a natural stone patio and ground levels re-defined so that all of the space would be on a uniform level. The old garden shed would be replaced by a newer and more compact model and a range of planting types and a synthetic lawn would complete the new solution.
